False Advertisment

Many companies/brands will use false advertising as a way to grab their consumers attention. For example this commercial for dry shampoo company Batiste. Batiste recently collaborated with singer Pixie Lott: a young, attractive and well known celebrity. The idea of having a younger, well known celebrity with her name on a range of their products is a clever way of boosting sales as they know it will attract the younger consumer and make it more of a lustful product that they feel they now want to purchase.

The ad itself claims that "98% would recommend Batiste to a friend",yet when you look at the sales figures below it reads "657 out of 665 users agree". As the consumers we immediately fall into the trap of thinking that these 'users' are everyday customers like ourselves. However, the majority of 'users' could potentially be people who are part of the industry and therefore are giving positive feedback to which they might not entirely agree with in order to boost sales. This being a clever way to boost sales figures by giving out false, believeable information to consumers.
